What is ADD or ADHD and how is it addressed nowadays? You have probably overhead someone mention the word ADD or ADHD sometime in your life. ADHD is the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder while ADD is the Attention Deficit Disorder. The number of people diagnosed with ADD and ADHD has grown steadily across the years. Up to five percent of children will exhibit symptoms of ADD or ADHD. These symptoms fall under two major categories. The first one is the attention deficiency part or the inattention part. These symptoms have to do with the inability of a person to focus on something for a certain amount of time. Symptoms in this category include the following: inability to pay close attention to details in school, difficulty following instructions, avoiding activities that require a lot of concentration and thinking, constantly procrastinates, distractibility and forgetfulness. The second category is the hyperactivity part. This category has to do with a person’s inability to control him or herself in a given situation. Symptoms in this category include the following: fidgeting in one’s seat, constantly moving the legs, arms, hands, and feet, interrupting other people without concern, inability to wait for one’s turn, excessively talkative and can not participate properly during quiet playing activities. If you or your child exhibits the symptoms above then you should visit a doctor and have a consultation. You never know if you or your child has ADHD or not. If your child does have ADHD or ADD then you will probably give him or her ADHD medications . If you are the one who has ADHD or ADD then you will have to take in adult ADD medications . Most of these medications will fall under the stimulant category. These stimulants will focus on the parts of the brain that are responsible for concentration and focus. Doctors will usually prescribe Ritalin, Adderall, and Dexedrine. If you are not comfortable with drugging yourself or drugging your child then you might want to consider taking alternative medicine ADD or ADHD . There are also a lot of ways to treat ADHD without the use of drugs. One of the ways to treat ADHD is to go on the Feingold diet. This diet will remove artificial ingredients, salicylates, and preservatives from your food intake. Another way to treat ADHD without drugging yourself is to increase your intake of caffeine. It may sound strange for three year olds and four year olds to drink a cup of coffee before going to playschool but there has been evidence that caffeine products are highly beneficial in treating ADHD. If you are an adult and you drink one to two cups of coffee in a day then you might want to increase your intake of caffeine with a Coke during lunch. If you are not comfortable taking any kind of chemical into your bloodstream then you might want to opt for coaching. When you are coached by a life professional, you will develop skills to improve your concentration and recharge your drive for life. Sometimes treating ADHD is not a chemical battle. If your problem is in your head then you have to deal with it in your head. If you are having trouble concentrating then maybe a coach can help you focus. There has been a lot of criticism on ADD and ADHD in recent years. They do not believe that symptoms such as fidgeting in one’s seat can qualify as a symptom for a child to have ADHD. At some point in anyone’s life, he or she has fidgeted in a seat especially during a boring lecture, right? Some people believe that ADD and ADHD are not disorders. They are simply a different way of life. Some people think that people with ADD or ADHD learn in a different way. If a normal child learns through listening to the teacher then the ADHD child may learn through discovering on his or her own. Children with ADHD might even grow up to be successful risk takers in life. Life is not all about playing it safe anyway. People with ADHD may use their inability to sit still to their advantage. They will always be propelled to take risks. These ADHD kids may be the catalyst for future discoveries. If you think that having ADD or ADHD is completely wrong then think again. If you look at the bright side then maybe having ADD or ADHD is actually a good thing.
